Holywood Primary School

Online Safety

At Holywood Primary we take internet safety very seriously. Pupils are regularly reminded about how they should behave when online, whether in school or at home.

Pupils are encouraged to:

  • Be kind online

  • Respect one another

  • Think before they post

  • Never share personal details

One way to stay safe online is to think SMART:

  • Safe

  • Meet

  • Accepting

  • Reliable

  • Tell

See the poster below for more information on each of these areas.

Social Media

The use of social media is constantly developing and growing. We all enjoy staying connected through apps such as WhatsApp, Snap Chat and TikTok. Yet while social media is an amazing tool and capable of much good, it can also be an extremely dangerous and harmful weapon. How you use it can cause untold hurt and distress, especially if not used correctly. Some children have access to a range of social media apps and with this in mind we have uploaded several informative posters from the National Online Safety website (https://nationalonlinesafety.com/guides). This will give you some important information regarding your child’s use of social media and some areas for discussion. Please check them out and discuss these with your children.

We have added a poster regarding artificial intelligence - this new technology, while being extremely useful and fascinating, can pose potential risks and challenges. Please check out the poster below for some tips on how to approach and deal with AI.

Group Chats

We have added a poster about group chats. Please have a look at this poster and discuss it with your child - especially if they are in any group chats on WhatsApp etc. Group chats can be great fun and useful to get a message to lots of people at once. However, they do have their dangers and it is important parents and carers check in regularly to keep an eye on what is going on.
